Lucknow:
The sudden demise of Samajwadi Party MLA Sudhakar Singh, representing the Ghosi Assembly seat in Mau district, has left the entire political spectrum in shock. Singh passed away at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow following multi-organ failure.
Leaders across party lines rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav reached Medanta and consoled the grieving family. The emotional moment turned even more heart-wrenching when Sudhakar Singh’s younger son, Sujeet, broke down and clung to Akhilesh Yadav, crying inconsolably. Yadav embraced him and tried to provide strength.
In a rare display of unity beyond politics, Sudhakar Singh’s long-time political rival and BJP leader Dara Singh Chauhan also arrived at the hospital alongside Akhilesh Yadav to offer condolences.
A Leader Who Saved SP’s Prestige in Ghosi
Sudhakar Singh had earned a special place in the SP’s political ranks. In the high-stakes 2023 Ghosi by-election, he defeated BJP’s Dara Singh Chauhan by over 40,000 votes, despite an aggressive campaign by the BJP and its ally SBSP chief OP Rajbhar.
For SP and Akhilesh Yadav, that election had become a battle of prestige, especially since Chauhan had previously been an SP MLA before defecting to the BJP. Sudhakar Singh’s victory was seen as a major morale boost and a turning point for the party.
Senior SP Leaders in Deep Mourning
Veteran SP leader Shivpal Yadav also reached Medanta and appeared visibly emotional. He said,
“The party has lost a true socialist leader and an unwavering worker. This void will be very difficult to fill. Sudhakar Singh was hardworking, popular, and deeply connected with society. We met just five or six days ago. His absence will be felt by all of us.”
Condolences from BJP Leaders
Leaders from other parties also expressed grief.
BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary said,
“The news of Sudhakar Singh ji’s sudden demise is extremely saddening. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May the departed soul find peace.”
Sudhakar Singh’s passing has created a deep sense of loss across political lines, reminding all that humanity rises above rivalry, especially in moments of grief.
